The Field of Stress and Regional Crustal Stability Research

The Division was established in 2006, on the basis of the former Stress Research center and the Regional Crustal Stability Research Center.  The Division is composed of 25 research personnel: 9 Research Professors, 3 Associate Research Professors, 7 Assistant Research Professors (engineer).  9 of them have Ph.D degrees; 8 Master’s, 2 of which are doctoral advisors.  The Division owns the Stress Measurement Laboratory, the High-temperature and High-pressure Laboratory, the Analog Modeling Laboratory and the Acoustic Emission Laboratory, a major components of the Key Laboratory of Neotectonics and Geohazards of the Ministry of Land and Resources.

Primary Research Interests

1. Stress measurement and integrated monitoring and their applications in engineering-geohazard warning
    and prevention,

2. Research on new methods and technologies of stress measurement and monitoring,

3. Researches on present, Mesozoic and Cenozoic stress state and evolution,

4. Experimental, analog and mathematic simulation of solid rock stress - strain rules under different tempera-
    tures, pressures, and boundary conditions,

5. Researches on dynamic mechanism of tectonic deformation and crustal movement,

6. Evaluations on environmental engineering geology and regional crustal stability,

7. Investigations and evaluations on the neotectonics and security of major national engineering projects.
